Dr. Paul Hunter was a prolific amateur golfer in the 1920s who captured his share of tournament trophies. The only five-time SCGA Amateur champion (1908 1909 1921 1924 and 1926) Hunter was also the California Amateur Champion in 1920 and 1921. Of the thousands of golfers who have competed in SCGA and USGA tournaments a handful stand above the rest. The first of those was Dr. Paul Hunter. This lot represents three different sterling silver country club golf tournament championship trophy cups won by Dr. Paul Hunter between 1905 and 1913. The first is a 14.5 tall sterling silver cup on tall neck and pedestal base with a planish gold plate coating inside cup. Engraved text on one side reads PASADENA COUNTRY CLUB OFFERED BY JOHN S. CRAVENS while the other side reads: WON BY PAUL M. HUNTER March 4 1905. The second trophy stands 12 tall and is beautifully designed with two ornate handles and includes the following engraving across the front: Western Golf Association Fifteenth Annual Tournament Homewood Country Club Presidents Cup Won by Paul M. Hunter 1913. The third trophy stands 6.5 tall and also has two ornate handles with the following words engraved across the front: ANNANDALE COUNTRY CLUB Hotel Green Cup Season of 1908-1909 Won by Paul M. Hunter.
