Featured here are two Orioles game jerseys worn by batting coach Ralph Rowe during one of the greatest eras of baseball in Baltimore to date. Rowe served as lead hitting instructor for the O's 1981-84 under HOF manager Earl Weaver and Joe Altobelli and was part of the their 3rd and most recent World Series title in 1983. The two jerseys are:
1) [No Name] 1981 gray road #54 jersey tagged '83 44 54 ROWE' inside back shirttail. The button-down MacGregor Sand-Knit jersey is size 44 with manufacturer's tagging outside front left shirttail. Classic cursive 'Orioles' stitched to front with '54' front and back all in orange over black tackle twill. Orange white and black O's coloration adorns end of both sleeves. Shows solid wear with some fraying and pilling to the letter and numbers. Comes largely as issued in appropriate game-worn condition with no alterations of any kind.
2) Ralph Rowe 1982 orange alternate #54 jersey tagged '82 2' outside the left front shirttail. The V-neck pullover style jersey is size 44 with Wilson manufacturer's tagging inside collar. Classic cursive 'Orioles' stitched to front with '54' front and back all in black over white tackle twill. 'ROWE' in black tackle twill on back orange nameplate. Orange white and black O's coloration adorns end of both sleeves. Shows great wear with one team repair on back and some pilling here and there. Comes largely as issued in appropriate game-worn condition.
Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Orioles Scouting Director Tom Giordano.
The pants in this lot come from the personal collection of longtime MLB executive Tom Giordano. After a very brief playing stint at 2nd base for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1953 Giordano moved on to a coaching managing and scouting career in baseball that is now 66 years and counting (began in 1948 in minor leagues). He was Director of Scouting and Player Development for the Baltimore Orioles from 1976-1987 before moving on to similar front office roles with the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers. In 2007 Giordano was named East Coast Scout of the Year.
