The 1935 National Chicle set was the first major gum card issue devoted to professional football, and its 36 cards remain cornerstones of any vintage football collection. The bold, stylized artwork is complemented by instructional playing tips from Eddie Casey, coach of the Boston Redskins, printed on every reverse.

Card #5 features Glenn Presnell of the Detroit Lions. A 1927 All-American halfback at the University of Nebraska, Presnell was one of the most versatile backs of the early NFL. The reverse calls him the "Best place kicker in National League," and he backed it up in 1934 with a 54-yard field goal that stood as the NFL record for nearly two decades. Presnell was a key member of the Lions team that won the 1935 NFL Championship.

The front depicts a determined Presnell in his blue #6 jersey, ball cradled in his arm, with a defender in yellow lunging toward him against a fiery red-orange background. The reverse, titled "Hug that ball," instructs young players on the importance of keeping the ball tight to the body, using Presnell's technique as the example. Interestingly, his first name is spelled "Glen" on the reverse.

This EX-MT 6 example offers outstanding eye appeal. The colors are rich and saturated, the image is crisp and the centering is strong.
