The 1916 M101-5 issue is one of the most iconic sets of the World War I era. Produced with a variety of advertising backs, including the Sporting News, as well as blank-backed versions, the 200-card set features crisp black-and-white photography of the era's greatest players. This offering presents the #90 Walter Johnson card with a blank back, one of the most desirable cards in the set.

The front shows "The Big Train" in a full-length windup, arms raised high above his head in his Washington uniform, standing on the field with the grandstands behind him. The image is clear and well defined, and the caption at the bottom reads "Walter Johnson, P.—Washington Americans," with the card number 90 beneath.

Johnson was in the midst of his dominant prime when this card was issued. In 1916 alone he won 25 games and led the American League in strikeouts. He finished his career with 417 wins and 110 shutouts, a record that still stands, and his 3,508 strikeouts stood as the major league record for more than half a century. He was one of the five original inductees into the Hall of Fame.

This EX 5 example is a significant condition rarity. According to the PSA Population Report, it is the only blank-back example to receive this grade, with just four graded higher. The card displays strong contrast, pleasing centering and light corner wear. The blank reverse is clean with natural toning. A rare and attractive opportunity to acquire this classic Walter Johnson in a high-grade holder. Graded EX 5 by PSA (Pop 1, 4 Higher).
