Released by the Orbit Gum Company of Chicago, the 1933 Tattoo Orbit (R308) set is one of the most visually striking issues of the Depression era. Each small card was originally packaged alongside a temporary tattoo, an inventive marketing hook that helped make these colorful cards popular with youngsters of the day. Today the 60-card set is prized for its vivid artwork and relative scarcity compared to the larger Goudey issues of the same year.

This card features Rogers Hornsby, the greatest right-handed hitter in baseball history. "The Rajah" won seven batting titles and two Triple Crowns, hit an astonishing .424 in 1924 (still the modern-era record) and retired with a .358 lifetime average, second only to Ty Cobb. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1942.

The front depicts Hornsby in a pinstriped uniform, coiled at the plate against a brilliant yellow background with red-roofed grandstands and flags behind him. The artwork is lively and the color remains bold throughout. The reverse lists him as an infielder with the St. Louis "Cardinals," along with his birth date, height and weight, all neatly printed in a simple bordered format.

The card exhibits honest, even wear consistent with the grade, with softening at the corners and mild edge wear, yet the image remains bright and appealing. The reverse is clean with some light toning. A highly desirable Hornsby from one of the decade's most charming issues. Graded VG+ 3.5 by PSA.
