With Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig and Bob Meusel already established as staples in a potent New York Yankees lineup the mighty got mightier in 1926. Having witnessed his 60-homer single-season assault in the Pacific Coast League the Bronx Bombers braintrust inked San Francisco native Tony Lazzeri to a hefty $75000 contract in the fall of 1925. Overshadowed by Ruth (as was everybody including Gehrig) Lazzeri quietly plied his craft through 14 seasons (12 in the Bronx) compiling 178 homers while playing for seven pennant winners and five World Series championship squads. Offered here is a pair of pants worn by Lazzeri during his fabled days at the "House that Ruth Built." These cream-colored flannel home pants boast the traditional Yankees pinstripes and feature six belt hoops and three vintage cream-colored buttons. Situated upon the back of the waistline's interior is a "SPALDING" manufacturer's tag alongside which "T. Lazzeri" has been chain-stitched in red cursive lettering. Applied in like fashion (in black characters) to the fly is "39 - 7 - 32." The back features two pockets and the leg openings have surprisingly retained some of their elasticity. The apparel reveals evidence of light wear and shows no repairs or alterations. This historic Yankee wear dates from the late 20's to early '30's a celebrated era for the winningest franchise in American sports history.

The item was obtained directly from the Lazzeri family by SCP Auctions and was originally sold as part of the Tony Lazzeri estate collection in 2003. The pants are accompanied by an SCP Auctions LOA attesting to the fact they were acquired directly from Tony Lazzeri's son David.
