The immortal Babe Ruth remains baseballs most legendary figure of all time. The owner of 714 home runs Ruth was a master at launching long balls. He was a grand showman on the sports biggest stage: Yankee Stadium. This lot includes a single-signed Babe Ruth baseball that the Sultan of Swat autographed during the early 1920s. The Spalding Junior Professional baseball (No. 7B) includes Ruths signature across the sweet spot in what was once strong black ink from a fountain pen. Though the autograph has faded substantially over the years it remains legible. It rates a 3/10 in our book. The consignor purchased this baseball from Sotheby's Barry Halper sale in 1999 for $14500. Unfortunately the baseball was on display in an area where it received direct sunlight every day for more than a decade.
