Here's a special artifact from America's pastime that you don't see everyday: one of Ken Griffey Jr.'s actual home run baseballs caught by a lucky fan on August 10 1999 as his Seattle Mariners hosted the Chicago White Sox at Safeco field during its inaugural season. The sweet-swinging left-handed gold glove centerfielder known as "The Kid" took Major League Baseball by storm in 1989. By 1999 he was a regular MVP candidate coming off back-to-back seasons of 56 home runs. On this occasion facing White Sox starter Mike Sirotka in the bottom of the 4th with his team down 3-0 Junior launched a long solo shot deep down the right-field line into the bleachers. It was his 36th of the season and 386th of his career at that point. He would finish the '99 season with 48 homers to lead the American League for the 3rd straight season. Griffey would join the Cincinnati Reds the following year where his father spent most of his career. Junior would go on to hit 630 home runs in his magnificent career. He is eligible for induction into Cooperstown in 2016 and it's pretty much guaranteed that he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.

The baseball and Seattle Mariners COA card are both encased in a nice acrylic display. The OAL (Gene Budig) baseball shows appropriate use for a game-used ball especially one crushed by one of baseball's all-time great sluggers. The front of the COA card reads "HOME RUN CLUB MEMBER" with "Brent Duncan" (person who caught the ball) "August 10 1999" and "Ken Griffey Jr." penned in blue ballpoint. Handwritten on the back is "HR 386 - C.W.S. - Brent Carlee Dad - 8/10/99". Prior to 2001 MLB did not authenticate home run baseballs. When a player hit a home run the Safeco attendants would go directly to the person who caught the ball and fill out this "Home Run Club Member" certificate with the fan's name the date and player who hit it. Two 8/10/99 game tickets stubs are included: Section 109 Row 24 Seats 6 & 7. Griffey's home run was a bomb that landed deep in the bleachers down the right field line which corresponds to these seats at Safeco Field. Also included in this lot is a stack of eight 4" by 5" photos of previous owner giving the ball a tour of Safeco Field from the dugout to the Mariners' locker room.

Ball comes with a COA from Seattle Mariners documenting it as a Griffey home run baseball plus 2 ticket stubs and 8 photos.
