Presented here is a 1999 Ken Griffey Jr. game worn home alternate jersey when he was in his prime with the Seattle Mariners. The sweet-swinging left-handed gold glove centerfielder known as "The Kid" took Major League Baseball by storm in 1989. By 1999 he was a regular MVP candidate coming off back-to-back seasons of 56 home runs. He hit 48 homers in '99 to lead the American League for the 3rd straight season. He is eligible for induction into Cooperstown in 2016 and it's pretty much guaranteed that he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
The white knit button-down vest shows moderate wear with some minor dirt and sweat staining. It is appropriately tagged by Russell Athletic with the Diamond Collection size 46 tag 1999 year strip tag 2" extra body length flag tag and 100% polyester flag tag. "MARINERS" appears in navy tackle twill outlined in teal and silver while the back letters and numbers spelling out "GRIFFEY" and "24" come in navy on teal. The letters and numbers stitched and all original. This sleeveless jersey a style rarely worn at home by the Mariners comes as-issued with no alterations of any kind. Also included in this lot is a stack of 4" by 5" photos of the featured jersey going on a tour of Safeco Field from the dugout to the Mariners' locker room.
