Born in London to working class parents and loyal Manchester United supporters, David Beckham lived the dream of an English footballer, playing for both Man U and his country. His club career would later take him to Real Madrid as a star member of Los Galácticos, then across the pond to the L.A. Galaxy where he became the face of Major League Soccer for a record-breaking salary.

For all his fame and glory, Beckham’s National Team tenure (1996-2009) was a bit of a roller coaster. It took several years for some Brits to forgive his red card in the 1998 World Cup. Yet, the handsome midfielder with a golden right boot left an indelible legacy with “The Three Lions.” In 115 appearances (59 as Captain), Becks assisted on 36 goals and scored 17 himself, including several clutch bending free kicks that became his trademark.

Presented here is a David Beckham 2002 England player-issued jersey from the 2002 FIFA World Cup Group F match against Sweden on June 2nd in Saitama, Japan. It was his 50th career Cap for the national team. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. England advanced to the knockout rounds and lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion, Brazil. It was after that match that England’s kitman traded this shirt with Brazil’s kitman, who has provided a letter of provenance for good measure.

The white long-sleeved pullover with red and navy accents has the England National Team shield crest on the left chest with the logo of manufacturer Umbro on the right chest. Beckham’s iconic No. 7 appears on the front and back, with his last name arched across the upper back. All letters and numbers are done in navy blue felt. Tagged within the collar as size XL, the jersey holds the key Umbro authentic licensed product label on the right shirttail. A 2002 FIFA World Cup Japan patch is embroidered on the right sleeve. “ENGLAND v SWEDEN 2-6-2002” is embroidered below the front number, along with “50th Cap” on the lower section to denote the significant milestone.

The shirt is clean with no visible evidence of wear and comes in outstanding condition. A great collector’s item for fans of Beckham, England, or football/soccer in general. Includes LOA from Sports Investors Authentication.
