On July 9 1912 the Portland Automobile Club hosted its annual five-mile race. The winner of the race was awarded an impressive silver-plated trophy that stood 29 high by 19 wide. This lot boasts that exact trophy: an elaborate two-handled cup. The overall award is embellished with both cast and applied embossed and engraved decorative elements a scene depicting a car race a "winged tire" and floral borders. Text engraved front reads: BUDWEISER CUP Donated by The Anheuser Busch Brewing Assn. St. Louis MO PORTLAND AUTOMOBILE CLUB MEET July 9th 1912 Free For All Distance Five Miles. The elegant cup weighs just over 18 pounds.
