Gene Locklear is a former major league player who eventually turned in his cleats for a paint brush after retiring from baseball in 1977. Now some 40 years later Locklear is a well-respected artist who has produced countless works of sought-after sports art. This lot includes an autographed original oil on canvas painting that Locklear spent hours on of Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench showing the latter during his glory days as a member of Cincinnati's Big Red Machine. The painting which measures 12 wide by 20 high shows Bench watching the flight of another home run this one belted in Game 4 of the 1976 World Series. It was a Fall Classic to remember as the Reds swept the New York Yankees in four games and Bench was named the World Series MVP. Beautifully framed and matted the overall item measures 15.5 wide by 17.5 high.

Includes an original 3 1/2" by 5" black & white photo taken of Gene Locklear and Johnny Bench at the time the painting was signed. The photo taken inside the Reds locker room in front of Bench's locker.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
