Boston Celtics legend Jo Jo White made his presence on basketball courts all over the world. He also carried himself with pride and exhibited hustle on the court at all times. As a native of St. Louis Missouri and a graduate of McKinley High School White has never forgotten where he came from and neither has the city in which he was raised. This lot features two special items including a beautiful cherry wood plaque commemorating his induction into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame on Nov. 20 2013 that measures 15 high and 11 wide. Whites numerous accomplishments on the basketball court are chronicled via a beautifully engraved bronze and black nameplate. The list includes his college playing days at the University of Kansas (1965-69) as well as the three NBA team he competed for: Boston Celtics (1969-79); Golden State Warriors (1979-80); and the Kansas City Kings (1980-81). Whats more several of his on-court accolades are listed including his jersey No. 10 being retired by the Celtics; being a pivotal member of the undefeated 1968 U.S. Olympic Gold Medal winning team; and Iron Man streak in which he played in all 82 NBA games for five consecutive seasons in Boston. The second item is Whites Key to the City trophy that he was awarded by St. Louis Mayor John H. Poelker who held the office from 1973 to 77. The trophy features a replica key with the Mayors name on it surrounded by the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Two gold plaques are fastened to the marble base one reading Gateway Arch St. Louis John Poelker Mayor and the other simply reading: JO JO WHITE.
