As a man whose life accomplishments inspired millions, Jesse Owens was a much sought-after speaker around the world. This lovely bronze medal was given to the Olympic hero by Valparaiso University (located in Indiana next door to Owens' home state of Ohio) most likely after one such speaking engagement at the school. The medal is made of bronze and measures 70mm in diameter and 5mm thick, weighing 6.5 ounces. The obverse features a university crest while reverse is engraved "VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY CENTENNIAL 1859-1959.” The medal shows some scuffs and abrasions from age. Edge engraved "METALLIC ART CO. NY" and "BRONZE."
Includes LOA signed by each of Jesse Owens' three daughters.
