Like the previous lot, this wonderful Official American League (Cronin) old-timers baseball is simply a stunner, in a pristine condition that is difficult to imagine for a baseball of this age and subjected to handling from 25 New York Yankee ballplayers from the 1930’s, ‘40’s and ‘50’s. And like its counterpart, that may be the result of its royal provenance, coming as it does from the personal collection of great Yankee relief pitcher and major league executive Johnny Murphy. There are five Hall of Famers lurking among a lineup of 25 signatures, with each and every one a strong ballpoint autograph. The great Joe DiMaggio and longtime teammate Spud Chandler signed on the sweet spot, with the following carefully divided between the four panels: Combs, Dickey, Henrich, Gomez, Keller, Lopat, Martin, Mize, Page, Rolfe, Ruffing, Sauer, Shantz, Shawkey, Shea and Turley, among others. The baseball is encased in a clear plastic display cube and original box.
