Oakland As catcher Gene Tenace was the star of the 1972 World Series. In addition to hitting four home runs he drove in nine runs versus the Cincinnati Reds to lead the As to their first of three straight World Series titles. For his heroics Tenace was named the Fall Classic MVP and was also proclaimed Mr. World Series by the Boston BWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America) Chapter. This lot features a pair of awards Tenace was given stemming from his postseason performance. The first is an oversized wooden plaque signed in silver by Tenace that he was awarded (along with the rest of his As teammates) on the 30th Anniversary of their first World Series Championship. The beautifully carved plaque measures 14 wide by 21 tall and includes a color team photo of the 72 squad as well as each members name engraved below the image. The top of the plaque is sporting the As logo below which reads: Gene Tenace in Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the 1972 World Series Champion Oakland Athletics. The second award is a silver-plated trophy cup awarded to Tenace by the Boston BWAA (Baseball Writers Association of America) Chapter. The two-handled cup which measures 7.5 wide by 8 tall is sporting an embossed Boston BWAA Chapter logo on the front just above a special engraving that reads: Mr. World Series 1972 Gene Tenace.

Includes LOA from Gene Tenace.
