ADDENDUM: This 1973 smaller-size World Series player trophy along with his '74 trophy in Lot 431 was ordered and made for Gene Tenage after he joined the San Diego Padres in 1977 this according to Mr. Tenace. Since the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners did not enter the league until 1977 and both team flags are represented on the trophy it was most likely produced sometime just after that.

The 1974 World Series matched the two-time defending champion Oakland A's against the Los Angeles Dodgers with the As winning the Series in five games. It was the boisterous club's third World Crown in a row and enormous achievement as yet unmatched in the ensuing two decades. Rollie Fingers figured prominently in all four Oakland victories posting a win and three saves and was honored as the Series MVP. Oakland became the first team to win three consecutive Series since the New York Yankees won five in a row between 1949 and 1953; the win secured the A's status as one of the truly dominant teams of the 1970s. It was also the third World Series triumph in a row for Gene Tenace who had established himself as an integral part of the Oakland A's dynasty.

This attractive piece commemorates that third triumph and is the smaller version of the coveted trophy that is awarded to the winning World Series squad each year. It is arranged upon a 2 1/2-inch tall 7 1/4-inch in diameter wooden base whose surrounding gold-colored band reads "WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS / Oakland Athletics / 1974 Gene Tenace." Atop the black base a 5-inch in diameter gold-colored band has a silver-colored baseball at its base and a very detailed gold crown figure at the top. Surrounding the base are 26 gold-colored flags that in alphabetical order bear the names of each Major League team; the banners gradually ascend in size from 5-1/2" to 9-1/2"." Trophy seems to be largely as-issued and problem-free. Truly an important artifact from one of the key contributors to the sole American League dynasty in the last 80 years not to come from the Bronx.

Includes a Letter of Authenticity from Gene Tenace.
