Presented here is a wonderful 1964 Chicago White Sox home full uniform ensemble (jersey pants undershirt and stirrups) worn by starting pitcher Gary Peters who played 14 MLB seasons (1959-73) and collected 124 wins during his tenure. Standing 6’ 2” tall the southpaw played his first 11 seasons with the White Sox before closing out his career with the Boston Red Sox. Peters was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1963 when he posted a 19-8 record and led the A.L. with an impressive 2.33 ERA. But the ’64 season was his finest in the Big Leagues as the then-27-year-old led the A.L. in wins (20-8 overall) with a 2.50 ERA and 205 strikeouts to earn his first of two All-Star nods. Peters also showed tremendous power at the plate launching 19 career home runs and 102 RBI in the A.L.’s pre-DH era. Madison Bumgarner would be proud.
The cream-colored and pinstriped button-down flannel jersey features a large "SOX" logo patch in dark blue with white trim stitched on the left chest. Peters’ No. "43" in the same format is sewn on the right sleeve and reverse. "PETERS" in large dark blue fabric letters is sewn across the upper back in an arched manner. Behind the collar is a hand-stitched strip tag with “Peters” in blue cursive thread. The internal neck lining has slightly come undone from wear and aging. Proper Wilson tagging appears on the front left shirttail indicating size 42 with a “1964-1" strip tag just below. The jersey has all-original numbers and letters and displays excellent wear overall with a few areas of light spotting. Absolutely no moth damage to speak of. The matching pants are properly tagged by Wilson inside the front waistline with “Peters” and “1964-1-27” hand-stitched in blue cursive on an adjacent strip tag. They too show outstanding evidence of game use inside and out with more apparent spotting on the rear and heavy piling on the wool/polyester material. All original elements including zipper buttons and belt loops are completely intact.
Also included in this lot is Peters’ cream and navy blue long-sleeve Tim McAuliffe (size XL) tagged undershirt with "PETERS" written in black marker on the upper back as well as a pair of his navy blue stirrup socks to complete the game-worn uniform from almost head to toe. It is extremely rare to find a uniform this complete from such a glorious era of America’s Pastime. Best part of all is that this great ensemble comes directly from Gary Peters’ personal collection.
Includes LOA from Gary Peters.
