The 1977 Los Angeles Dodgers were led by new manager Tommy Lasorda to a 98-64 record, good for first in the NL West. LA beat the Philadelphia Phillies in four games in the NLCS, setting up a matchup with the New York Yankees in the World Series. The Yankees emerged victorious in the Series in six games.
This 14k gold ring was presented to former Dodgers General Manager Fred Claire. The top of the ring reads Dodgers National League Champions surrounding a baseball diamond made up of diamonds for the bases and home plate. The left panel features a casted image of a pennant engraved with the name “CLAIRE” and the Dodgers “ascending baseball” script logo. The right panel features a casted image of the Dodgers’ jet in the clouds, symbolizing the team’s road victories in the NLCS. Below that is the interlocking “LA” logo and “1977”. The inside of the ring is stamped “LGB 14K”. The ring weighs 30 grams and is a size 11. Part of the Claire Collection.
Fred Claire was a longtime member of the Dodgers front office. He was the general manager of the team from 1987 to 1998. After a dismal 1987 season, Claire built the team into a contender overnight. After aquiring players like Kirk Gibson, the Dodgers won the 1988 World Series over the heavily favored Oakland A's in just five games. A portion of the proceeds from each of Claire's items in this auction will go to the City of Hope.
