Mark Johnson signed and inscribed game ready stick presented to USA Hockey executive Art Berglund. Johnson was a star Center on the "Miracle on Ice" USA Olympic Hockey team that defeated the USSR on February 22 and then won the Gold Medal by defeating Finland in the finals on February 24 1980. Against the Soviets Johnson scored two of his team's four goals in USA's 4-3 semifinal "Miracle on Ice" victory. He scored in the first period which directly led to the Soviet coach taking out his goalie Vladislav Tretiak who was considered the best goalie in the world at the time. He also scored in the third period to tie the game 33. The team then went on to defeat Finland to capture the gold medal with Johnson assisting on the game-winning goal and scoring the insurance goal with less than four minutes remaining.
The Northland (Registered Pattern Number 6162-1) wooden stick made for lefty Mark Johnson has "JOHNSON" stamped twice near the top of the shaft. The grip is not taped but the blade has the base tape job done. The stick/s he used in the semifinals vs. USSR (Miracle on Ice) and finals vs. Finland both showed a black tape job. On the side of the shaft in 8-9/10 blue ballpoint pen Johnson has written "To Art Thanks for Everything. Best Wishes Mark Johnson #10 Lake Placid Winter Olympics XIII Feb. 24 1980".
Includes Letter of Provenance from renowned Olympic memorabilia collector and auctioneer Ingrid O'Neil who acquired this stick directly from former USA Hockey General Manager Art Berglund. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
