This lot features the one-of-a-kind pencil and charcoal artwork of New York Yankees great Lou Gehrig by renowned artist Nathalie Rattner who has signed the piece in black ink on the lower right corner. The quality is so good that at first glance it looks printed. However Upon closer inspection however one can clearly see that this is 1 of 1 original art. Her work is quite simply amazing! Rattner is a Canadian-American artist who excels in the area of photo-realism. Her work has taken top awards in a series of national drawing competitions and has been highlighted in the Boston Globe. Over the past several years she has created a series of charcoal and pencil images that capture the essence of many of baseballs greatest icons. Many of these images are now in private and public collections. Rattner was the subject of a January 9 2009 article in Sports Collectors Digest. The artist acknowledges that the emphasis in her work centers around the textures associated with her subject in this case the "Iron Horse" shown in his beautiful left-handed backswing. The original charcoal and pencil drawing of Gehrig measures 18" wide by 24" high and comes beautifully framed and matted inside an overall presentation measuring 25.5" by 31".
