In 1980 flame-throwing right-hander Nolan Ryan joined the Houston Astros at the age of 33. He won a total of 106 games with 1886 strikeouts and two ERA titles in his nine seasons there leading the 'Stros to a pair NL West division titles. The Texas native felt at home and looked sharp in Houston's colorful and now wildly popular 80's uniforms from that era. This lot presents an Astros cap autographed and believed to have been worn by "The Express" during the early-to-mid 1980's. It certainly has all the attributes of a Ryan gamer. The blue wool hat features the embroidered logo of Houston orange star and white "H" on the forehead. The green underside of the bill has Ryan's famed No. "34" in black marker next to his 9/10 blue autograph. The cap exhibits significant wear throughout particularly on the interior with heavy sweating and tearing of the sweatband fabric near the front. Most of the rear manufacturer's size tag has come apart but it shows enough to resemble the 1980-87 New Era labeling.
