Featured here is Hall of Fame legend Joe Montana's game worn San Francisco 49ers helmet from the early 1990's. Considered the most clutch quarterback in football history having gone a perfect 4-0 in Super Bowls "Joe Cool" spent the first 14 (1979-1992) of his 16 years in the NFL with the 49ers before finishing up with the Chiefs (1993-94). He was named league MVP twice Super Bowl MVP thrice and made 8 Pro Bowls including his final season as a 37-year old. The debate among Montana Unitas Brady and Manning as the best ever wages on but in most circles Joe sits on top of the mountain.

This Schutt 'AiR' model helmet employs the brand's interior foam cushion and air bladder padding system. The gold shell is adorned with the 'SF' logo on either side and the 49ers' classic red & white stripe down middle and it shows good game use overall with several scratches and contact marks. A 49ERS sticker covers the 'AiR' model stamp on the front rubber guard above the facemask. The rear has the NFL shield logo (covering the Schutt brand stamp) and manufacturer's warning label. Also a piece of white tape covers the 'AiR' model logo on the back neck pad. A dymo label with MONTANA 16 is stuck above the left earhole on the inside and Joe's number '16' and '2' (perhaps for Set 2) penned in black are hidden behind the left ear pad clip. His "JM" initials are marked in black on the interior foam pad at the top. The gray-coated facemask with a double-bar cage is completely intact along with the original white chinstrap. Both padded ear flaps appear to be replacements due to their new-looking appearance. Take note of the custom tape jobs around the short bar section of the facemask near each earhole as well as the two tape wraps on the chinstrap. This helmet was truly customized to fit Montana's needs. Overall the helmet is presented as problem-free and largely as-issued a superb piece from one of the best signal callers ever. This same helmet originally sold for $6691 in SCP's Summer 2014 Premier Auction (Part II of the Newport Sports Museum).

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
