With four Super Bowl championships in four trips to the Super Bowl San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana was one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. This game-worn and autographed jersey comes from yet another of Montanas standout seasons (1990) in which he led the Niners to a 14-2 regular-season record before being ousted by the eventual Super Bowl Champion New York Giants in the NFC title game. On the front left tail of the jersey is the Wilson manufacturers tag (complete with washing instructions) accompanied by a flag tag reading 44 DP to indicate its size. Montanas trademark jersey number 16 appears on both the front and back in white tackle twill sewn directly into the red mesh jersey. On the back is a red nameplate reading MONTANA in white tackle twill letters. The Hall of Fame QB signed the length of the No. 1 on the back of the jersey in blue marker which has since started to fade. Overall the jersey presents very clean with light to moderate wear including puckering to the back letters and numbers as well as some fraying to a few stitched areas. This particular jersey was donated to the 3rd and Long Foundation a non-profit founded in 1990 by Chiefs Hall of Fame linebacker the late Derrick Thomas and defensive end Neil Smith. The Kansas City inner-city organization still very active today raises money to fight illiteracy and provides mentoring to at-risk youth. When Montana joined the Chiefs in 1993 it appears that he handed over one of his old 49ers jerseys to Thomas who in turn donated it to his charity.
