In 21 seasons for the Baltimore Orioles (19812001) Cal Ripken planted himself among the immortals of the game with a level of consistency and durability unmatched in MLB history. Ripken compiled 3184 hits 431 home runs and 1695 runs batted in during his career and he won two Gold Glove Awards for his defense. He was a 19-time All-Star and was twice named American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP). Ripken is best remembered for breaking Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive games played a record that had stood for 56 years and many deemed unbreakable. This Franklin batting glove from the early 1990s is a recognizable element a fixture with the famed Ripken batting stance and a marvelous artifact from arguably the most beloved player of his generation. Photo evidence indicates that Ripken wore black and white Franklin batting gloves up to the 1993 season. The glove has the Franklin leather piece affixed above the wrist and the Diamond Collection logo labeling on the other side; on the leather wrist strap the Hall of Famer has placed an attractive black Sharpie autograph. The glove shows excellent game wear and is problem-free and without incident.
