Doug Wilkerson was an offensive guard for the San Diego Chargers from 1971 to 84 and was a staple of the Air Coryell era. He was selected to three consecutive Pro-Bowls from 1980 to 82. One of the fastest linemen to ever play football he was recorded at 9.8 seconds in the 100 yard-dash. Wilkerson a member of the Black College Football Hall of Fame was also named to the Chargers 50th Anniversary Team and inducted into the team's own Hall of Fame in 2000. This lot features Wilkersons game-worn Chargers helmet used between the 1980 and 83 seasons. The Max Pro navy blue helmet complete with its two-tiered yellow facemask is missing its interior padding that was attached via Velcro. A "5 8 1" stamped below the left ear hole could indicate that its from the 1981 season. Multiple game photos match this helmet style as being used from 1980-83. The helmet which sports the Chargers trademark lightning bolts on either side includes Wilkersons trademark 63 on the back in yellow.
