Differing from the more plentiful signatures which feature a more rounded script, this example is the unmistakable style in which Mickey Mantle signed early on in his career. Mickey came up to the Yankees in 1951 as one of the most anticipated ballplayers in the history of the storied franchise. After a few rough patches early in the season, Mantle found his footing in The Show and helped the Yankees win the 1951 World Series. He’d go on to win six more World Championships with the Yanks and while becoming one of the most popular players to ever wear the pinstripes. Sometime early in his Yankees career The Mick signed this 4 1/2” x 4 1/2” cut in pencil. “NEW YORK YANKEES” has been carefully added below in another hand, likely the original owner. The cut also has the signature of Women's LPGA player Alice Bauer on the back, also in pencil. The two-sided autograph cut comes with LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA.
