Larsen who never won more than 11 games and reached 200 innings just once struck out seven batters in the Yankees' 2-0 win over the Brooklyn Dodgers in World Series Game 5 at Yankee Stadium after which he leaped into catcher Yogi Berra's arms to make for an image that remains iconic to this day. From the most-famous pitching feat in World Series history comes a nicely scored Official Scorecard that was present in Yankee Stadium on Oct. 8 1956. The 5.5 by 9.5 inch scorecard survives in excellent condition save only for a vertical crease down the middle. There is no writing on the front or back covers; inside the original owner did a bang-up job of recording the historic moment in black ink neatly providing all the pertinent information in each box right down to pitch counts and attendance. Then he (or someone) had the good sense and good fortune to get seven of the nine Yankees starters to sign around the team's section of the scored portion. That group includes naturally Don Larsen plus his battery-mate Yogi Berra Mickey Mantle Hank Bauer Gil McDougald Billy Martin and Joe Collins. Also included in the lot is a copy of the New York Daily News from the following day with the iconic long-lens shot of Larsen fires his final pitch of the day to a frozen Dale Mitchell. The Daily News specimen is intact but reveals the kind of wear you'd expect from newsprint after more than a half century. This is a perfect commemoration of a perfect event both of which defy duplication.
