The late Don Drysdale made his MLB debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers during the 1956 season. The 19-year-old hard-throwing righthander tallied a record of 5-5 in 12 starts with a 2.64 ERA and 55 strikeouts during his rookie campaign. Standing 6' 6" with the propensity to throw inside -- he plunked 154 batters in his 14-year Hall of Fame career -- "Big D" was an intimidating presence on the hill and earned the reputation as one of the most feared hurlers in the game. This lot features his game-worn circa 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers baseball cap.
Since Don played just two seasons at Ebbets Field before "Dem Bums" moved to L.A. his Brooklyn uniform items are incredibly scarce presenting a wonderful opportunity for esteemed collectors. The size 7¼ Dodger blue KM Pro Cap manufactured by Tim McAuliffe Inc. has the stitched-in white “B” for Brooklyn on the front and shows evident wear throughout. The cardboard visor insert inside the brim has a couple cracks but this does nothing to detract from its display. Simply an marvelous piece of game-used baseball memorabilia from the dawn of Don Drysdale’s stellar career.
Includes LOA from Don Drysdale''s widow [and Naismith Hall of Fame member] Ann Meyers Drysdale.
