Following his Hall of Fame baseball career the late Don Drysdale set off on a broadcasting career starting in 1970 with the Montreal Expos and worked with three more teams (Rangers Angels and White Sox) over the next 15 years before signing a lengthy contract with ABC. He joined the Dodgers' broadcasting team in 1988. He provided on-air commentary for the Angels from 1973 to 79 and again in 81. It was during this time with KMPC Radio (AM 710) and the Angels that Drysdale was awarded this impressive broadcasting trophy. Presented by the KMPC Sales Staff in 1974 it reads: DON DRYSDALE for Outstanding Performance on Radios Greatest Baseball Broadcast Team. In Grateful Appreciation. The 18.5 trophy which includes a gold microphone at the top on a marble tier is made of wood and sports both a gold-plated pitcher and batter on either side of its base. Whats more this lot includes an oversized black-and-white framed photo of Drysdale alongside his KMPC partners then-Angels owner Gene Autry and Emmy-award-winning broadcaster Dick Enberg. There is a passage on the oversized photo that includes the following: It takes a lot of heart to own a ball club. Gene Autry has more than enoughIf you cant be at the Big A be near your radio Drysdale and Enberg will put you in a box seat. The framed photo measures 23 wide by 28 high.
