Just two years removed from their 1963 World Series championship the Dodgers bounced back to win the National League pennant with a record of 97-65 two games ahead of the San Francisco Giants. On the mound Los Angeles was once again led by the dueling fastballs thrown by southpaw Sandy Koufax (26-8) and righty Don Drysdale (23-12) who powered the Dodgers to victory over the Minnesota Twins in a thrilling seven-game World Series. Beyond Drysdales pitching prowess that season his hitting ability truly shined as well. Not only did he bat .300 for the season but he belted seven home runs and drove in 19 runs to boot. Drysdale finished fifth in the balloting for N.L. MVP that year behind winner Willie Mays of the Giants.
This lot features Drysdales 1965 Los Angeles Dodgers game-worn road uniform. The classic flannel road style is unmistakable as the jerseys boasts a blue scripted "Los Angeles" across the chest rising over a red number "53" that routinely struck fear into the hearts of batters in every National League city. Number "53" is repeated in larger blue digits on the reverse. Lower left front tail provides the proper "Rawlings" manufacturer's label (size 46) softened from wear and showing some fraying. His last name and season Drysdale 65 is embroidered in blue just beneath the Rawlings tag. Inside tail holds a "Set 1 1965" flap tag anchored at right seam of a washing instructions label. The matching pair of Dodgers road flannel pants is similarly tagged and match the jersey in all respects. This perfect all-original ensemble is a remarkable reminder of Drysdales second-best season ever one in which he pitched 308 1/3 innings and struck out a total of 210 batters.
