This enormous approximately 64-by-70-inch football blanket was presented to Washington Huskies star tackle Paul Schwegler for his participation in the December 27 1930 East-West Shrine All-Star Football Game won by the West 3-0. Schwegler's college football experience helped to launch an acting career in Hollywood during the 1930s first paying minor parts in football films and later in other genres such as the drama film "365 Nights in Hollywood." A two-time All-American tackle he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1967. The heavy wool blanket is breathtaking in its enormity and pristine condition after nearly 85 years. Its cream colored with light tan and dark blue hemmed borders; it has rounded edges and a 22-inch purple section sewn to one corner with "University of Washington" embroidered in a faded gold. A 12-inch in diameter East-West All-Star Game chenille patch at the center is similarly startling in its pristine condition. With delicate embroidery in three colors it features the East-West shield encircled by a blue border with red and silver trim that states "Century of Progress Football Game." The blanked has a small tag on the inside of "O'Shea Knitting Mills of Chicago." As noted the condition of the blanket is nothing short of remarkable; somebody put this thing into storage just as FDR stepped into the White House and bid farewell to Herbert Hoover in the throes of the Great Depression.

Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
