Longtime ace Dave Stewart shined when it mattered most: October. A 20-game winner four straight years for his hometown Oakland A’s (1987-90), “Smoke” started the ’89 All-Star Game for the American League and later that year was named MVP of the 1989 Fall Classic (Bay Bridge Series). The three-time World Series champ also took home MVP honors in the 1990 and ’93 ALCS, respectively. “Stew” got his final ring with the Toronto Blue Jays in ’93, retiring with 168 career victories along with 10 playoff wins and an impressive 2.77 postseason ERA.
The A’s were a juggernaut in 1988, winning 104 games before sweeping the Red Sox in the ALCS. Stewart started the opener and got the W in Game 4, posting an ERA of 1.35 over 13-1/3 innings against Boston. In the World Series opener against the Dodgers, he went eight strong and was all set to earn the win until Kirk Gibson hit that famous shot off Eckersley. The right-handed workhorse compiled a 21-12 record during the regular season with a 3.23 ERA and 192 K’s, leading the league with 14 complete games and 275 innings pitched.
For his efforts helping Oakland win the pennant and make the World Series, Stew was awarded this 1988 A.L. Championship 10-karat gold ring. The face features "A's" spelled out with 12 round-cut diamonds atop a green stone surrounded by "OAKLAND 1988 AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS". One shank has "STEWART" and his No. “34” along with a raised image of the Athletics elephant holding an "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPS" banner. The other shank has the "Athletics" script logo, "A's-4 B-0" (ALCS series tally), and a raised image of the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the season attendance of "2,287,335". Inside is stamped "10K JOSTENS". The ring comes in size 11 and weighs 36 grams. It shows moderate wear and remains in great shape.
Includes LOA signed by Dave Stewart (printed in B&W and signed in black pen).
