Offered is a New England Patriots helmet worn by John "Hog" Hannah. Hannah was certainly the top offensive lineman in Patriots historyand one of the greatest offensive lineman on any team in any era. The white plastic shell boasts the team's "Pat Patriot" Colonial mascot in a center "hiking" position and a red-and-blue striped pattern down the center. At the back separate "7" and "3" decals pinpoint the helmet's use to Hall of Famer Hannah. A number of other features link the helmet to Hannah and Hannah only. First this style of numeric identifiers (blue-and-white thin numerals on the red stripes) was abandoned after 1986 and in 1987 through the end of the decade large thick numbers were adhered outside the striping with high placement. Secondly the shell's crown is stamped "1984" and Hannah hung up his cleats after the '85 season. Third Hannah wore the unusual side clips for a couple of seasons near the end of his career and also wore the double-reinforced cage (in white) during his final three seasons. Hannah wore number "73" exclusively from 1973 through 1985. After his retirement nobody wore that number in 1986 and Danny Villa wore it from 1987 through 1991. But by 1986 virtually all helmets were forward-clipped (unlike this one) the rear numeric identifiers' style size and placement were radically changed and from 1987 onward the clips were clear not white. A customized "PATRIOTS" snubber resides over the front bumper and is situated atop the four-bar face mask. Within the shell four rows of padded cells (two along the circumference and two at the crown) are accompanied by two jaw pads a size "7-1/2" sticker and two black marker notations of "73." The Sunday relic shows phenomenal use with battle-induced scuff marks and paint transfers throughout. The interior padding is intact except for a portion of the forehead pad which has become disengagedlikely due to head and shoulder combat engaged by the fierce drive-blocking Hannah. Overall a fantastic specimen representing a true hero of "trench" warfare.

Includes a copy of a LOA from Lou Lampson.
