Vintage type I George Bain photo about 3 1/2" by 5" picturing a crystal clear image of legendary Boston Red Sox fireballer Smokey Joe Wood throwing the ball before a game in front of a dugout. In 1912 after a 34-5 regular season that included 10 shutouts Wood led the Boston Red Sox to the World Championship by defeating the New York Giants 3 times. On back in pencil is "Joe Wood back in 1912". Also present in pencil are the words "Wood" "Boston" and "Sport". Stamped on back is "FILED BEFORE JUNE 1919". At top of photo on the image in white ink is a backward "Boston". Photo itself is in very nice condition with some light creasing.
