Offered here is the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) Intercontinental Championship belt won by Chyna (a.k.a Joan Laurer) at the WWF's "No Mercy" event held at the Gund Arena in Cleveland Ohio on October 17 1999. Chyna defeated Jeff Jarrett in the Intercontinental Championship match to became the first female Intercontinental champion in WWF history. She would hold the belt twice in her storied career one that made her the female face of wrestling for well over a decade.
The black leather belt has a large 7 by 11-inch center metallic plate engraved "World Wrestling Federation - Intercontinental - Champion" in black enamel block lettering with six faux gemstones at the top. The patented WWF scratch logo is in the middle of the plate over a background of a stretched-out globe grid in blue enamel. The heavily-sought Property of WWF 6th plate approx. 2.25 x 3" appears on the far right of the strap. Four brass-plated badges (each 3.25 x 4.75") appear on the belt two on either side of the center plate listing the names of earth's seven continents along with map-like images of the given continent. The belt is equipped with a 10-snap closure on the outside of each strap.Dozens of small "WWF" impressions are branded into the black leather strap on the front perimeter.
The belt was designed and hand-made by Joe Marshall better known as JMAR who does not make belts for the public. JMAR no longer makes championship belts for the WWF making this even more rare to find in the hobby. According to the previous owner who spoke with JMAR directly the belt is made using hand-cut and hand-dyed leather with zinc plates that are acid-etched for the design. The coating is copper nickel and gold-plated for a beautiful finish.
The belt was seen displayed on Chyna's wall during an episode of MTV Cribs in the early 2000's. It is accompanied by a framed cover of the February 7 2000 issue of Newsweek magazine also previously owned by Laurer featuring both Chyna and The Rock on the cover with the headline "Inside Wrestling Inc." The framed and matted magazine cover measures 14.5 wide by 17 high.
