From 1978-81 the late Chuck Daly served as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Sixers. Midway through the 1981-82 season Daly was hired by the Cleveland Cavaliers to be their head coach (his first head coaching position in the NBA) and sometime during that year he received a gift from the team that gave him his first NBA coaching gig. Featured here is a Philadelphia 76ers team-signed and game-used basketball from the 1981-82 season. The Sixers coached by Billy Cunningham and led by superstar forward Julius "Dr. J" Erving won the Eastern Conference that season but ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals four games to two. This lot features an official NBA Wilson (OBrien) game-used basketball that was signed by in black marker by 12 members of the Sixers team that season including Dr. J along with standouts Lionel Hollins Darryl Dawkins Bobby Jones Andrew Toney Caldwell Jones and Maurice Cheeks. Each of the 12 signatures is strong and would rate 8-9/10 in our book. The Cavaliers hosted the Sixers on March 26 1982 and it would seem appropriate that the Sixers would present this game-used ball signed by the team to their former assistant coach after that game. The Sixers won 115-111. The ball is sourced directly from the Chuck Daly Estate.
Includes copy of LOA from Terry Daly Chuck's widow. Also comes with Letter of Provenance from Rich Behar owner of SportsCard Central who acquired many items directly from the Daly estate in 2010.
