The late Chuck Daly the man who coached the Detroit Pistons to back-to-back NBA titles in 1989 and 90 also served admirably as the head coach of the 1992 United States Mens Olympic Basketball Team. Under Dalys guidance the 12-man squad which included 11 professional players bested their Olympic opponents by an average of 44 points per game. During the lopsided competition the U.S. men were dubbed The Dream Team.
This lot features a very special presentation piece that was awarded to Daly almost three months after the Games concluded by the New Jersey Nets the NBA team he coached from 1992 to 94. The overall framed piece which measures 12 wide by 15 high boasts a beautifully positioned Olympic medallion hanging from a yellow ribbon. The medallion features an Olympic torch being held up by what appears to be a Greek god reminiscent of the ancient Olympic Games. Placed on a blue felt background the item includes a specially engraved gold plaque that reads: Presented to COACH CHUCK DALY in Recognition of your Outstanding Efforts as Head Coach of the USA Olympic Dream Team From Your Friends THE NEW JERSEY NETS November 12 1992.
Includes copy of LOA from Terry Daly Chuck's widow. Also comes with Letter of Provenance from Rich Behar owner of SportsCard Central who acquired many items directly from the Daly estate in 2010.
