In 2013, on the 75th anniversary of the inaugural NCAA Basketball Tournament, Christian Laettner was honored with the prestigious NCAA Top 15 All-Time March Madness Player award. Laettner's illustrious NCAA tournament history is punctuated by numerous memorable moments. His most renowned achievement is his iconic shot against Kentucky in the Elite Eight, which propelled Duke to claim yet another championship in 1992. Moreover, Laettner's significant contribution led the Blue Devils to triumph in 1991, and he received the tournament's Most Outstanding Player award due to his impressive performance of averaging 23.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in that year's Final Four. The climax of his tenure at Duke was marked by winning two championships in his final two seasons and setting four NCAA tournament records: most games played by an individual, highest points scored, most attempted free throws, and most successful free throws. Laettner's staggering tally of 407 points in his 23 NCAA tournament appearances remains an unbeaten record. Despite being surrounded by talented players like Bobby Hurley and Grant Hill, Laettner was the linchpin in Duke's era of dominance under Mike Krzyzewski, which elevated Duke to an iconic status in the world of basketball.
The autographed award presented to Laettner stands a foot tall, is mounted on a 5-inch diameter stone pedestal, and weighs in at a hefty 7.4 lbs. The words "Top 15 All-Time March Madness Player" are etched prominently at the top of the trophy, and a raised emblem commemorating the 75th anniversary of March Madness adorns the body of the trophy. The pedestal bears the inscription "Christian Laettner Duke" in white. There is a minor imperfection in the form of slight chipping just above his name on the base of the trophy. The award comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Christian Laettner himself. A representative from SCP authenticated and photographed Laettner's signature, and its authenticity is guaranteed to withstand any third-party verification.
