Presented here is an extraordinary game-worn jacket shirt and cap set from Hall of Fame umpire Doug Harvey used most likely during the 1980's. Known for his authoritative command of baseball rules he earned the tongue in cheek nickname "God" from players and was one of the last major league umpires who did not attend umpiring school. Known for his exaggerated strike calls Rennert umpired in the National League from 1962-92 and worked 5World Series and 7 All-Star Games. In 2010 he became the 9th umpire to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1999 the Society for American Baseball Research ranked Harvey the 2nd best umpire in history behind only the legendary Bill Klem.

The navy blue sport coat has an embroidered National League emblem patch on the front left pocket. It is tagged inside the collar with "Uniforms by Feccheimer Cincinatti Dry Clean Only." A silky interior lining adds another layer to the already heavy jacket Harvey would wear behind the dish calling balls and strikes. Next up is a light blue short-sleeve shirt with his famed No. 8 on the right sleeve in navy blue tackle twill. The shirt has the appropriate Hathaway label at the collar and the tiny Hathaway H embroidered in red at the extreme edge of the tail. Harvey has signed in black marker with his No. "8" inside the front left pocket which has the embroidered National League emblem patch on the outside. The accompanying cap is a perfect complement enhanced even more by Harvey's striking black Sharpie autograph on the inside again with his No. "8" inscription. The New Era Pro Model cap has the appropriate tagging on the sweatband and the interlocking "NL" embroidered in white on the front. All items exhibit appropriate game use and come as-issued in problem-free condition. This is a very unique lot with umpires clothing and regalia not typically offered at auction especially from one as revered as Harvey. In addition this lot comes with three baseball cards two of Harvey and a signed Norm McSherry card.
