America’s Pastime was further romanticized and globalized during the 1930's when many of MLB’s biggest stars made pilgrimages to Japan to help popularize our great game. Tours of Japan in 1931 and '34 featured the likes of Yankee legends Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. The Iron Horse attended both tours while Ruth only made it to the latter. Presented here is a timely postcard handwritten by Gehrig during one of his journeys overseas to a noted socialite of the era named Beatrice Wade.

"If you haven't left our rank yet please consider my suggestion that this is an ideal spot for your honeymoon. It ought to be just about that time now. Best of luck in your new venture - Lou" is written by Gehrig in clean 9-10/10 black fountain pen. Gehrig also addressed the postcard to Wade's residence in Detroit Mich. The note by Gehrig always the gentleman in no way jeopardizes his lifelong devotion to his wife that is well-documented. Wade befriended many Yankee players including Ruth and their wives. She passed away in 1981 and her collection was auctioned by a family member last year.

The postcard comes in a neatly matted and framed (12" by 15") display with two photos--one of Gehrig swinging and the other of the U.S. team (Gehrig on far right)--plus the same image that is on the front of the postcard showing the Kanaya Hotel in Nikko Japan. The back of the frame reveals the front of the actual postcard that Gehrig signed.
