Presented here is a vintage portrait photograph of Joe Tinker, the same image used for the Chicago Cubs shortstop's baseball card in the iconic 1909-11 T206 tobacco series. Originally taken by famed Boston photographer Carl Horner in 1903, this offered example is most likely a Type II version made between a few years and a decade later, according to PSA/DNA's renowned photo expert Henry Yee. A wonderful antique exemplar that is over a hundred years old, the photo appears to have been developed from Horner’s original glass plate negative as the contrast and clarity are absolutely striking. The brilliant image quality is certainly equal to that of a 1900’s Type I mounted example. The 3-13/16" by 5-1/2" photo has a crease/crack at the top left corner (taped on back) and a few surface scuffs (mostly along the right edge), but overall it remains in VG/VG-EX shape. "Tinker" is handwritten three times on the reverse along with two numbers in pencil.

Tinker, along with fellow Cubs infielders Johnny Evers and Frank Chance, was part of the team's legendary double-play combination -- immortalized as "Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance" in the poem "Baseball's Sad Lexicon" -- that led the Cubbies to back-to-back World Series titles in 1907 and '08. All three were enshrined in Cooperstown in 1946.
