After tallying 102 wins during the regular season and then defeating the California Angels in the ALCS the 1979 Baltimore Orioles looked poised for a World Series triumph. They had a 20-game winner (Mike Flanagan) and three 25-home run hitters (Eddie Murray Ken Singleton and Gary Roenicke) but ultimately came one game short of world championship glory. The Pittsburgh Pirates' "We Are Family" squad led by Willie "Pops" Stargell ultimately took the title in seven games. Offered here is the AL Championship ring that was presented to Brooks Robinson after the 1979 season. Two years removed from retirement as a player Brooks remained in service as the teams hitting instructor. The size 9.5 ring manufactured in 10K gold by the LGB jewelry company features an orange stone surrounded by a beveled border. The interior of the border reads "AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" in raised lettering while its exterior rim displays "BALTIMORE ORIOLES." The ring's left shank carries engraved designs of the Orioles mascot the Memorial Stadium facade the year ("1979"). The opposite shank features a baseball emblem bearing Brooks famed number 5 Orioles enameled logo and small banner bearing his name B. Robinson. The ring shows medium overall wear.

Robinson gave the ring to our consignor a friend and former Orioles batboy. His letter of provenance accompanies the ring.
