Interesting original August 1 1885 letter on Detroit Wolverines letterhead sent by Team Secretary R. H. Leadley to Wolverines manager Bill Watkins in Boston relating to a letter Leadley received from National League President Nicholas Young. In the letter Leadley writes "Dear Sir; I enclose Young's letter relating to Ferguson if you are not satisfied with him wire Young at once". Included with this original letter is a photo copy of the letter Young sent to Leadley. It reads "Yesterday morning I assigned the umpires for the next two weeks and as a special favor (as I supposed) assigned Ferguson to umpire your games in Boston & Providence. This morning I rec'd your telegram but I am unable to change my programme today as the umpires are on the road changing around. Please tell your manager by letter or wire that if Ferguson is unsatisfactory in your two Boston games to advise me by wire and I will change at once." Letter itself is in very nice condition with just the original folds. Also included is about 1/2 of the original mailing envelope to Watkins.
