On April 5 1984 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar passed Wilt Chamberlain to become the NBA's all-time leading scorer at 31420. With over 18000 in attendance at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas to watch the Utah Jazz (played ten home games in Vegas that season) host the L.A. Lakers Kareem took a pass from Magic Johnson with nine minutes to play in the 4th quarter and converted the milestone bucket to pass Wilt's 31419 point total. The game stopped as teammates rushed to congratulate the 7' 2" center and the fans gave him an extendedstanding ovation. The 37-year-old was then taken out of the game finishing with 22 points on 10-14 from the floor and 2-2 from the charity strike plus five rebounds and three assists. The Lakers were victorious 129-115.

Presented in this lot is a pair of unique items Abdul-Jabbar wore that evening to set the all-time scoring record which he still holds today at 38387. First is one of his Lakers-themed wristband with gold and purple stripes that Kareem has signed " Kareem 4/5/84" in blue marker. The second is one of his Lakers-themed athletic socks with gold and purple stripes on which he signed his full name this time and again dated "4/5/84" in blue marker. If the dated inscriptions are not proof enough both pieces come with exceptional provenance. Two incredible keepsakes from arguably the greatest player in basketball history and a record that may never be broken. Autographs pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Provenance: This lot originates from a gentleman who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Hollywood as an agent for many well-known athletes and entertainers. His professional and personal network enabled him to amass a significant collection of memorabilia nearly all of which was given to him directly from the athletes and entertainers themselves. All of these items are being introduced to the marketplace here for the first time. While our consignor remains anonymous SCP Auctions will issue an LOA for each game used item attesting to its player-direct provenance.
