The late John Wooden the longtime legendary men's basketball coach at UCLA preached a very simple philosophy to his student-athletes: "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming." His popular "pyramid of success" included many words that kept his players on track provided they demonstrated qualities like "loyalty skill condition enthusiasm cooperation confidence team spirit" etc.

This lot features two separate John Wooden themed trophies issued to former UCLA Lady Bruins basketball standout Ann Meyers-Drysdale. The first is the "John R. Wooden Award" presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. The 7" dark marble base has "ANN MEYERS DRYSDALE ALL-TIME ALL-AMERICAN" etched in white with a pyramid shaped glass piece that rises 7" high with an abstract depiction of five basketball players connected as one enclosed in the glass.

The second trophy was presented to Meyers on April 16 1994 at the Marine Corps Scholarship Ball in Los Angeles. It measures 10" wide by 12" high and includes a wooden base with an Acrylic/Lucite pyramid on top with an artist's sketch of Coach Wooden on one knee. Presented to Meyers well past her playing days it features a gold plaque upon which the following text is printed: "JOHN WOODEN SPORTS AWARD - Ann Meyers-Drysdale - Marine Corps Scholarship Ball - Los Angeles 16 April 1994." (Note: Her last name "Meyers" is misspelled on the plaque.)

LOA from Ann Meyers Drysdale.
