This lot features Ann Meyers' Hall of Fame induction plaque and medallion and originates from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield Massachusetts.
Meyers was the first woman ever to be inducted in 1993. The 5' 9" guard led the UCLA Lady Bruins to the 1978 national title which was preceded by her winning a silver medal in Montreal as a member of the U.S. Women's Olympic Basketball Team. She remains the only female to ever land an actual tryout with an NBA team. In 1979 the Indiana Pacers invited her to a three-day tryout from which she was eventually eliminated.
The 18" by 18" blue plaque features a bio of her career including statistics and records plus a 5" by 6" photo of the player of here in action during her collegiate playing days at UCLA. The metal plaque weighs 2.5 pounds and is in NM-MT condition. The circular metal medallion measures 12" in diameter and 1/2" thick weighing approximately 1.5 pounds. It features a three-dimensional etching of her face. The verso of the medallion has two support bars that once held the medallion onto the wall at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It also includes a piece of masking tape with "MEYERS" spelled out in black Sharpie. Her oversized medallion remains in NM-MT condition.
