For a whole generation of baseball fans watching Rod Carew swing the bat was the closest anybody might ever get to observing true perfection. For much of his Hall of Fame career it seemed to many that Carew could hit the ball anytime he wanted to just about anywhere he wanted. On Aug. 4 1985 in his 19th season in the major leagues he slapped a 1-1 pitch from Minnesota starter Frank Viola into left field the only hit of the day in five at bats for Carew which was fairly rare in itself for the lifetime .328 hitter. What added to the uniqueness: this was hit No. 3000 propelling Carew into an exclusive club that seemingly he was born to join. From that historic moment comes the actual first base from the game. The official Major League Baseball artifact has a gold-plated nameplate attached at the top reading "Base - Angel Stadium Rod Carew Hit # 3000" and a second nameplate (not affixed to the base) of "1st Base Angel Stadium Rod Carew Hit #3000." Carew's name has been printed in an elegant calligraphic style on the base itself with notations added in the same style: Career Hit No. 3000 Aug. 4 1985 vs. Minnesota.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
