Offered here is the late great Tony Gwynn's game-used and autographed San Diego Padres cap worn during the game he collected his 3030th and 3031st career hits. Facing the Florida Marlins on September 3 1999 at Pro Player Stadium in Miami the Padres prevailed by a score of 6-3 thanks in large part to the first-ballot Hall of Famer. Not known for his power the sweet-swinging lefty doubled and scored in the 3rd inning before blasting a 3-run homer to right in the 7th inning to put the Pads ahead 5-3.
The New Era Authentic Diamond Collection hat is navy blue with the interlocking white and orange “SD” on the front. It comes in size 7 1/8 with 100% wool materials tagging. Gwynn's iconic No. "19" is penned in black marker on the inner front. Tony has signed the outer brim in 7/10 silver marker. Under the brim is notated “9/3/99 vs FLA" in black ink and "3030/3031" in blue ink.
Gwynn batted .289 in 190 at-bats during his first season in the big leagues in 1982 andthen he never batted below .300 again during his 20-year career finishing witha lifetime .338 clip that may never again be matched. He actually hit.338 in 1999 when he donned this offered cap. One of baseball's besthitters ever was also one of the best all-around guys. He will bemissed.
