Offered here is the late great Tony Gwynn's game-used andautographed San Diego Padres cap worn by the first-ballot Hall of Famer during the game he collected his3042nd and 3043rd career hits. Facing the Montreal Expos on September 11 1999 at the friendly confines of Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego the Padres fell by ascore of 5-4. Gwynn went 2-5 with an RBI single in the ballgame.
The New Era Authentic Diamond Collection hat is navy blue with theinterlocking white and orange “SD” on the front. It comes in size 7 1/8with 100% wool materials tagging. Gwynn's iconic No. "19" is penned in black marker on the inner front. Tony has signed the outer brim in 8-9/10 silver marker. Under the brim is notated “3043/3043 vs. MTL 9/11/99" in black ink.
Gwynn batted .289 in 190 at-bats during his first season in the big leagues in 1982 andthen he never batted below .300 again during his 20-year career finishing witha lifetime .338 clip that may never again be matched. He actually hit.338 in 1999 when he donned this offered cap. One of baseball's besthitters ever was also one of the best all-around guys. He will bemissed.
